Dr. Reza Taale: Contact person for partners from science
and economy
Communication talent, organizational skills, a special focus on users and partners, market observation and analysis as well as the implementation of funding programmes and research grants are basic requirements for cluster management. All of the above are also part of the new job profile of Dr. Reza Taale, who has been working as the new Cluster Manager at InnovationLab since the beginning of June.
"Part of my role is to represent iL and showcase its potential in different areas," says Reza Taale about his role, "I will also focus on building and developing a strong network across different sectors to ensure the best possible interactions and collaborations."
Researcher and postdoc at IMSEAM
The 39-year-old was most recently a researcher and postdoc at the Institute for Molecular Systems Engineering and Advanced Materials (IMSEAM) at Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg for three years and was part of Professor Christine Selhuber-Unkel's group. The physicist works at the interface of biophysics and biomaterials, is spokesperson for the "3D Matter Made to Order" Cluster of Excellence, which is jointly funded by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Heidelberg University, and was also recently elected Deputy Spokesperson of the Materials Science and Engineering Network of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech).
The materials scientist Reza Taale has already worked at several universities (Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Iran University of Science and Technology Tehran) and is therefore very familiar with the requirements and needs of universities. He has also gained professional experience both in biomedical engineering and in the organizational environment of university hospitals. In this respect, the native Iranian sees iL as an excellent platform that bridges the gap between science and industry by providing a high-tech infrastructure in the field of materials science and qualified employees. "I see InnovationLab as the ideal place for my transition from university to industry, where I can use my expertise in microfabrication, materials science and biomaterials to contribute to iL's progress in the field of life science technologies," says Reza Taale.

Focus topic Life Science Technologies
His main focus is on life science technologies. Reza Taale wants to tackle the challenges at the overlapping point of life sciences and technology with conviction: "Building a reliable bridge between biology, materials science, medicine, computer science and engineering requires an advanced infrastructure and knowledgeable people with a problem-solving mindset. The iL is well equipped to meet these requirements and offers significant potential in this area." He will be the contact person for the scientific community, in particular the Cluster of Excellence "3DMM2O", but also for university hospitals, start-ups, industrial partners and the non-profit cluster platform BioRN in Heidelberg, one of the strongest biotech and life science hubs in Germany, thanks to his diverse expertise.
"Reza is convincing because of his professional background. But more importantly, he wins people over and takes them with him. At iL, we accelerate the transfer of technology between our partners. And that happens when the exchange between people works," says Managing Director Dr. Michael Kröger.
In addition, Reza Taale will be responsible for promoting and establishing clean tech technology transfer as another central pillar of iL. In connection with the planned establishment of an electrolysis pilot factory in Heidelberg, he is the contact person and coordinator for interested companies that want to develop innovative technologies and contribute to the decarbonization of domestic industry through the manufacture of electrolysers and the production of green hydrogen. The electrolysis pilot factory project is supported by the KIT and operated, incubated and accelerated by our InnovationLab.

Always with a smile
Away from iL cluster management, Reza Taale is also an all-rounder. He prefers spending time with family and friends, attending events, cooking and trying out recipes, piloting a microlight and traveling to get to know countries and people. "I enjoy being active with jogging, soccer, tennis and volleyball. I also like to play the piano and chess," says Reza Taale with a wink.
His mindset is geared towards versatility. This explicitly includes openness, concentration and communication skills.
