Green Industry Cluster grows internally and externally
Founded in early 2024, the Green Industry Cluster, of which InnovationLab is a founding member, is rapidly developing into a powerful network in the metropolitan region's green tech sector. This became clear at the Mafinex Technology Center Mannheim these days. The 2025 kick-off included the official members' meeting and a lounge meeting with potential new members.
Seven new members
Better safe than sorry - and so 25 people attended the obligatory annual meeting, followed by a welcome 50 people for an entertaining round of introductions. The good news: seven new members joined in 2024 (including iL shareholder Heidelberg University, MVV Energie AG, UniCredit, RBC GmbH, Rixius GmbH, Heidelberg Materials and the University of Mannheim), while Lean Knowledge Base UG was the only company to leave. The current number of members is therefore 23.
Other key figures for 2024: the Green Industry Cluster held 13 events, eleven projects and collaborations were carried out as part of cross-clustering and two working groups were formed to foster the exchange of experts on the topics of secondary raw materials and visibility. And the "GIC" broke through the first sound barrier of 1,000 followers on the Linkedin channel.

New website online soon
The upward trend is set to continue in 2025. The cluster's website will go online in March. "We are keeping the website simple and avoiding animation in order to use as little CO2 as possible," says Managing Director Anna Schmidt. Together with Chairwoman Christiane Ram, Head of the Department for Economic and Structural Development of the City of Mannheim, the organizer looked to the near future in HUB 2 of the Mafinex and a diverse, rich agenda.

Connect Green and KONGRESS BW as highlights
Events with the highlights Connect Green (June 5, Spinelli-Gelände Mannheim) and KONGRESS BW (October 22/23, Liederhalle Stuttgart), workshops, working groups, company visits and support for the "BioCyclesRN" project, which the Green Industry Cluster will be tackling together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) as a partner from February 13, reflect the range of activities. Internal cluster solutions are also being promoted. The "Strategy and Cluster Development" committee has now been expanded to 14 competent members.
The "GIC" is therefore growing both internally and externally. That will be necessary. Because the goal of jointly developing the metropolitan region into a hotspot of GreenTech progress and implementing innovations practically and efficiently is more ambitious than ever, around a year after it was founded on February 7, 2024. This is both a driving force and an accelerator for the power of the Green Industry Cluster community.
