Joachim "Jogi" Klaehn: Communication professional with heart and team spirit
Joachim "Jogi" Klaehn: A passionate team player who loves and lives language - whether at work, in sport or in his private life. With over five decades of experience in journalism and a great enthusiasm for cultures and travel, Jogi Klaehn brings people and ideas together as Head of Communications at InnovationLab. His goal: to communicate complex topics in an understandable and exciting way. When he's not developing communication strategies, you can find him on the basketball court or in the mountains - always curious, active and full of drive.
Who are You are?
I perceive myself as a team player - in my professional and private life as well as in sport. I am sometimes too much of a perfectionist. I am working on this tirelessly. As a trained journalist and former competitive athlete, good content, language, success and team spirit are simply my thing.
What does you with your work at the InnovationLab most most fun?
It's clearly the different people, types and characters that I have to deal with both internally and externally. And it's super exciting to break down the language of science and business - and to constantly face new communication and content-related challenges.

"A mixture of strategies, writing and networking"
How explain you then someone non-specialist your activity in understandable language?
Admittedly, it's not always easy. Let's put it this way: In my job, I am gradually trying to improve iL's external image and public relations work. To explain to people that, firstly, we are a technology transfer platform and, secondly, that we value interdisciplinary collaboration and great partners. Internally, I am the "gatekeeper" of information.
Which skills/core competencies are required required?
As Head of Communications, it's a healthy mix of communication strategies and formats, research, writing, networking - as well as asking questions. Who ticks how? Who needs what? Which channels, media and target groups do we serve? In the technological worlds of research, development and industry, there is always a human side that needs to be considered. Gut instinct is extremely important. Finding solutions and answers is just as important ...
Are are there personal goals, that you in near future in the near future?
A damn good question at almost retirement age. I want to stay healthy, fit and curious. Active, creative and capable of learning. There is no lack of diversity of interests. iL would like to see a "lighthouse project" as soon as possible that can be placed in the media and on an epic scale.
What do you in your free time passionately with pleasure - what are are you?
Traveling, hiking, reading, writing (MLP Academics, USC BasCats, MM and econo), visiting events and museums, enjoying friendships - and above all spending time with my family (wife, three children). And I run and burn in basketball - at German championships, European and world championships in my age group (wink). I consider it a great privilege that my body gives me.

Nostalgia and innovation
Your favorite place - and your favorite sentence?
Copenhagen and Lisbon (for personal and emotional reasons). I like the nostalgic and innovative aspects, the rhythm of life there. And: summits, mountain huts and footbridges into the water - no matter where.
Ich halte es schon länger mit Heraklit: „Panta rhei“ ‒ alles fließt!

Which invention of mankind celebrate are you celebrating?
Letterpress printing, light bulbs, cameras, laptops, smartphones, for example. I would so celebrate comfortable ski boots.
